Adam Maness

Adam is a versatile pianist, arranger, composer, and producer whose performances, original compositions, and arrangements have been featured on numerous recordings and on national and international radio and television broadcasts. He is best known as co-founder and composer for the genre-bending chamber ensemble, The 442s.

As Open Studio’s Managing Director, Adam develops the curriculum of all of the courses, in addition to teaching his own popular courses like The Harmony Games and The Improv Games

Peter Martin

Peter Martin is an acclaimed jazz pianist, educator, and founder of Open Studio. He has performed and recorded on six continents with artists including Wynton Marsalis, Dianne Reeves, Betty Carter, Christian McBride, and Joshua Redman, as well as with his own ensembles. Through Open Studio, he has created over 600 piano lessons and helped pioneer the field of online jazz education, earning recognition from The New York Times for his groundbreaking work. Peter also co-hosts the award-winning music podcast “You’ll Hear It” with Adam Maness.

Bob DeBoo

Bob is an in-demand performer on both the double and electric bass. Some of the projects he’s been involved with the last couple years include playing with David Sanborn’s Acoustic Quartet, Peter Martin, Geoffrey Keezer, Alarm Will Sound, James Carter, Matt Wilson, Ron Miles, the 442s, leading his own quartet, and much more.

Bob has also been a part of numerous Open Studio live concert events and courses. He is also highly active in education, having worked with Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Jazz for Young People program, JazzSTL’s JazzU program and more

Thembi Dunjana

One of South Africa’s most extraordinary piano talents, Thembi has established herself as a star in Cape Town’s rich Jazz scene. Drawing upon varied inspirations that range from the American influences of Coltrane, Silver, and McCoy to South African legends like Molelekwa and Mseleku.

Chris Parks

Chris began studying with the late, great Barry Harris in 1993 and still learns from his teaching every day. In addition to in-person teaching, he began sharing what he learned from Barry on his popular YouTube channel in 2018. Chris has two courses on Open Studio, Barry Harris’ Scales of Chords and Barry’s World of Soloing.

Josh Walsh

Josh Walsh is a Cleveland-based jazz pianist and educator who transitioned from classical training at the Cleveland Institute of Music to becoming a dedicated jazz performer and teacher. After studying with competition winner Margarita Shevchenko, he developed comprehensive teaching materials through years of private instruction. Walsh now runs Jazz-Library full-time, sharing his systematic approach to jazz piano education.

Thomas Echols

Thomas’ work as a musician centers on blending the depth of classical guitar with the explorative spirit of jazz and the advancements of modern technology. He sees himself as conduit between the established and the experimental, using his skills as a composer, performer, and technologist to push the boundaries of guitar music.

Caili O’Doherty

New York-based pianist, composer, arranger and educator, Caili is known for integrating structures of language in both her compositions and her approach to improvisation. Her recent music focuses on the celebration, preservation, and expansion upon the achievements of jazz’s unsung women heroes.

Nathan Pence

Los Angeles-based producer and bassist Nathan Pence brings industry-acclaimed “Sauce” to both stage and studio. With Masters training from Temple University, Nathan started professionally at just 14, touring internationally before honing his craft under Eric Wortham (Adele, Jill Scott). His performance credits now include artists like Seal and Michael McDonald, following years performing in every major East Coast jazz venue with the Terell Stafford Quintet.

John Proulx

John Proulx is an acclaimed jazz singer, pianist, and composer known for his smooth, Chet Baker–like vocals and swinging piano style. He’s performed with Anita O’Day, Natalie Cole, and Marian McPartland, and his songs have been recorded by jazz greats, including Grammy-winner Nancy Wilson. Based in Los Angeles, John performs, records and inspires audiences around the world.

Elijah Cole

Elijah is one of the most in-demand musicians in Philadelphia, both in live performance and recording contexts. Noted for his versatility, he comfortably moves between genres including Jazz, R&B, Gospel, Folk, Pop and Bluegrass, bringing his original and compelling voice to any musical scenario he finds himself in. In addition to performing in and around the Philadelphia area, Elijah tours throughout the year, performing across the United States and Europe.

Jeremy Siskind

A highly-respected educator, Jeremy has written 13 publications with Hal Leonard, including the landmark instructional books Jazz Band Pianist and First Lessons in Piano Improv. His self-published instructional book, Playing Solo Jazz Piano. Jeremy has two courses on Open Studio, Solo Piano: Ballads and Solo Piano: Medium Tempo.
